The human brain is divided into three key parts. The neo-cortex occupies the larger part of the brain on the outside, with the smaller limbic system inside it and then the R-complex located inside that. The neo-cortex is further divided into two hemispheres, left and right. The left brain controls the functions on the right side of the body and the right brain controls the left side. The left brain is said to be the masculine brain… dominant, intellectual, scientific and objective. The right brain is said to be the feminine brain… receptive, emotional, holistic and subjective.
It has been demonstrated scientifically however that neither hemisphere actually functions autonomously, and this right brain-left brain theory has lost some traction as a result. Its most recent appearance is the work of Roger W. Sperry, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1981.
However the idea of the dual male-female nature of the brain, and of consciousness itself, goes back a long way. In Kabbala the universe is considered to originate from‘mind’, and that it is a dynamic of male and female union. A principle of Hermetic philosophy states that, Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.
While modern man has moved on from the beliefs and myths of his forefathers, their thinking no doubt prevails in an evolved and hidden form today. While the current generation remains utterly indifferent to the challenges of its ancestors, the ancestors retain a keen interest in the affairs of its progeny.
The male-female nature of the human psyche, and of the brain itself, is fundamental to all students of esoteric philosophy. The triune deities of the Sumerians, the Babylonians, and the Egyptians… and even Christianity, through their tales and legends they depict the three-part system of the human brain: the female limbic system (Isis, Semiramis, Mary) that protects the neo-cortex (Horus, Tammuz, Jesus) from the wrath of the R-complex (Osiris, Nimrod, Yahweh). If the R-complex is trained through trauma to connect directly to the neo-cortex, bypassing the nurturing aspect of the (female) limbic system, then psychopathy results in the absence of empathy. This is also known in occult circles as the ‘sacrifice of the goddess’. That is why the son is always shown with the mother, not the father; Osiris was killed by his brother Set before Horus was born.
Returning to the male-female nature of the human brain, things now start to get interesting. There is a sneaky trick being played… because when we analyze the male and female aspects we are talking of course from a male or ‘left brain’ perspective. We are not looking from a female or ‘right brain’ perspective, because in that perspective there is no formal analysis… the analyzer (subject) is not separated from that which is being analyzed (object).
And while we characterize the left brain as objective we also characterize the right brain as subjective. That is what the left brain does, it characterizes and catalogues information. Since when is the left brain qualified to say anything about the right brain? The right brain is described as holistic… meaning cognizant of the whole… so how can it be one component of a two-part system AND be holistic? How can something partitioned be creative? It cannot. When the right brain is properly functioning, it means the whole brain is properly functioning.
Just as a cat flawlessly utilizes gravity, yet is unaware of the concept of gravity… so the right brain is unaware of a subject-object paradigm, and yet it has awareness of the whole. There is no left-right brain division in the right brain perspective.
Brain imbalance comes from the left brain. People who are left brain imbalanced are steeped in science, logic and materialism… where the left/masculine brain literally dominates the right/feminine. Those who are right brain imbalanced have replaced critical thinking with faith… when the left brain, perhaps in frustration, abandons its efforts to dominate but over-swings the other way. Either way it is an assault on the female aspect, a brutal re-enactment of the Sacrifice of The Goddess ritual.
